Bechamel Sauce

Serves: 3

Very easy



  1. In a saucepan, heat the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add flour and stir until smooth.
  3. Cook until the mixture turns a light, stirring with a wooden spoon. 
  4. Gradually add the milk, whisking continuously until very smooth.
  5. Bring to the boil, cook for 5 minutes or until mixture thickens.
  6. Season with salt and pepper. 
  7. Remove from heat and allow to cool. 


  • 2 1/2 cups milk 
  • 50g butter 
  • 1/4 cup plain flour 
  • Pinch of salt 
  • Pinch of ground pepper
